KPI-BASED EVALUATION OF SPEAKING SKILLS IN ESL: INSIGHTS FROM TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED TASK-BASED LEARNING

Abstract

This study explores the application of Key Performance Indicator (KPI)-based assessment in evaluating English as a Second Language (ESL) learners’ speaking skills within technology-enhanced task-based learning (TBL) environments. By focusing on four core KPIs—fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, and interactional competence—the research demonstrates how systematic, performance-oriented evaluation can provide detailed insights into learners’ communicative abilities. Technology-enhanced tasks, such as collaborative storytelling, debates, and problem-solving simulations, create authentic opportunities for oral practice and foster active engagement. The findings indicate that integrating KPI-driven assessment with TBL not only improves measurable speaking proficiency but also supports targeted feedback and skill development. This approach offers a comprehensive framework for enhancing ESL learners’ communicative competence in practical, real-world contexts
