DEVELOPING SPONTANEOUS SPEAKING SKILLS THROUGH DEBATE-BASED LEARNING

Abstrak

Spontaneous speaking is a crucial component of communicative competence and an essential skill in academic and professional contexts. However, many language learners struggle to produce speech fluently and confidently without prior preparation. Debate-Based Learning has emerged as an effective pedagogical strategy for fostering spontaneous oral communication by encouraging critical thinking, rapid idea formulation, and interactive discourse. This article explores how structured debate activities enhance learners’ fluency, argumentation skills, and confidence in real-time communication. Drawing on contemporary research and classroom practice, the study demonstrates that debate-based instruction creates authentic communicative environments that stimulate cognitive engagement and linguistic development.
