SPEECH ACTS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS IN COMMUNICATION

Abstrak

This article explores the concept of speech acts and their role in the process of communication. It examines speech acts as linguistic units through which speakers not only convey information but also perform actions. The study outlines the main components of speech acts locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts and discusses their classification based on John Searle’s framework. In addition, the article analyzes the key communicative, regulative, expressive, and social functions of speech acts, highlighting their significance in pragmatics and everyday interaction
