Abstract

Metaphor is not only a decorative device of poetry. In modern linguistics, metaphor is understood as a cognitive and communicative mechanism through which people conceptualize abstract, complex, and emotionally charged experiences. Since the publication of Lakoff and Johnson’s Metaphors We Live By in 1980, metaphor has been studied not merely as a rhetorical figure, but as a basic principle of human thought.
