Abstract

Hematopoiesis is the biological process responsible for the formation of blood cells throughout the entire lifespan of an organism. This process begins during early embryonic development and undergoes several important transitions before reaching its mature form in adulthood. In the embryonic stage, blood cell formation initially occurs in the yolk sac, producing primitive blood cells necessary for early survival. As development progresses, the fetal liver becomes the primary site of hematopoiesis, supporting the differentiation of various blood cell lineages. Later, hematopoietic activity gradually shifts to the bone marrow, which remains the main site of blood cell production in the adult organism. Adult hematopoiesis is characterized by a highly organized histological structure and the presence of hematopoietic stem cells that ensure continuous renewal of blood cells. Understanding the developmental stages and histological regulation of hematopoiesis is essential for medical education and provides a foundation for interpreting hematological disorders
