Abstrak

The rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence technologies has introduced significant changes across numerous domains, with language education being among the most affected. This article examines the role of AI-powered tools—including intelligent tutoring systems, natural language processing applications, chatbots, and adaptive learning platforms—in the acquisition and development of English as a foreign or second language. Drawing on a review of recent empirical studies, classroom observations, and learner feedback, this paper investigates how such technologies enhance vocabulary acquisition, grammar development, speaking proficiency, and overall communicative competence. The results indicate that AI-assisted instruction can meaningfully supplement traditional pedagogical approaches, particularly in contexts where access to native-speaker interaction is limited. However, this study also highlights several concerns, including overdependence on technology, reduced opportunities for authentic human interaction, and issues of equity in digital access. The discussion addresses pedagogical implications and calls for a balanced integration of AI tools within communicative language teaching frameworks
