LINGUISTICS AND LITERATURE IN THE UZBEK EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT

Abstrak

The integration of linguistics and literature has long been a subject of academic debate in language education. In the Uzbek educational context, these two disciplines are traditionally taught as separate subjects, particularly in higher education institutions training future teachers of English and philology specialists. However, recent pedagogical reforms and competency-based curricula emphasize interdisciplinary approaches that foster critical thinking, communicative competence, and cultural awareness. This study explores the role of linguistics and literature in Uzbek higher education, examines their pedagogical interaction, and analyzes the challenges and prospects of integrating these fields in language teaching. Using qualitative analysis of curriculum documents, classroom practices, and relevant scholarly literature, the study highlights the need for a balanced and integrated model that connects linguistic knowledge with literary interpretation. The findings suggest that an interdisciplinary approach enhances learners’ analytical skills, language proficiency, and cultural competence, thereby contributing to more effective language education in Uzbekistan
