ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC AND SEMANTIC FEATURES IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK PROVERBS

Abstrak

This study focuses on the analysis of linguistic and semantic features in English and Uzbek proverbs, highlighting the ways in which cultural values, social norms, and human experiences are encoded in language. Proverbs, as fixed and concise expressions of folk wisdom, serve as a mirror of national identity and collective mentality. The research examines structural, lexical, and stylistic characteristics of proverbs in both languages, including the use of metaphors, idiomatic expressions, and syntactic patterns. A comparative approach is employed to identify similarities and differences in how English and Uzbek proverbs convey meaning, reflect cultural concepts, and express moral, ethical, and social principles. The findings reveal that while English proverbs often rely on brevity and metaphorical imagery, Uzbek proverbs frequently emphasize contextual storytelling and cultural specificity. This analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication and provides insights into the relationship between language, thought, and culture. The study is significant for linguists, translators, and educators interested in comparative phraseology and intercultural studies
