TAJIKISTAN CIVIL WAR, UZBEKISTAN'S ROLE AND AND THE REASONS OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE TAJIKISTAN CIVIL WAR

Tajikistan faced civil war between 1992 and 1997 which was influential to whole Central Asian region. Main causes of the civil war were weak government system, rivalries among the elites, and a lot of existing oppositions in the political life of the country, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Even though the conflict is is internal politics of Tajikistan, it affected its neighbour countries such as Uzbekistan. This article analyzes the history of the Tajik Civil War and the reasons of Uzbekistan’s Involvement in it. The article argues that fears of Islamic Fundamentalism’s spread, border security, ethnic ties and regional power balancing ere the main drivers for Uzbekistan’s involvement in Tajik Civil War
