Аннотация

The study of appositive constructions occupies an important place in modern linguistic research due to their significant role in sentence structure and communication. Appositive constructions are grammatical units that provide additional information about a noun or noun phrase while referring to the same entity. These constructions contribute to clarity, precision, cohesion, and stylistic variation in discourse. The present article investigates the theoretical foundations of appositive constructions in English, focusing on their definitions, classifications, grammatical characteristics, semantic relations, and communicative functions. The research examines the views of prominent linguists regarding apposition and appositive structures and analyzes the structural patterns commonly found in contemporary English. Special attention is paid to restrictive and non-restrictive appositives, their punctuation features, and their role in written and spoken communication. The article also discusses the importance of appositive constructions in language teaching, translation studies, and discourse analysis. The findings demonstrate that appositive constructions serve as effective linguistic devices that enhance textual coherence and facilitate successful communication. Understanding their theoretical foundations contributes to a deeper comprehension of English syntax and stylistics
