Abstract

This article examines the intricate relationship between extensive reading and writing quality, positing that consistent and broad engagement with diverse texts significantly enhances various dimensions of written output. It explores the theoretical underpinnings, particularly implicit learning and schema theory, to explain how extensive reading fosters an intuitive grasp of linguistic structures, rhetorical strategies, and genre conventions. Empirical evidence is synthesized to demonstrate the positive impact of extensive reading on lexical richness, syntactic complexity, cohesion, coherence, and overall stylistic proficiency. The article further discusses how extensive reading provides writers with a rich repository of models and ideas, transforming their textual production capabilities. Finally, it outlines pedagogical implications for integrating extensive reading into writing instruction, advocating for its role as a fundamental pathway to cultivating more capable, confident, and sophisticated writers across educational levels
