A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK

Abstract

The article under consideration examines the phraseological units (PUs) such as idioms, collocations, and set expressions in English and Uzbek with reference to their structural, semantic and cultural peculiarities. Phraseological units, multiword conventionalized homonyms that represent meaning in a non-predictable manner that cannot be predicted based on the unique components, are the key to fluency, natural communication, and pragmatic competence. The paper will look at both the similarities and differences between the English and Uzbek phraseology with a more focus on the way the differences show the patterns in linguistic, cognitive and cultural variations. The specific consideration is given to the issues that students have to perceive when learning idiomatic competence such as semantic opaqueness, structural rigidity, and cultural particularism. Through comparative analysis, the article illustrates the pedagogical importance of phraseological units, showing that they are relevant when it comes to language teaching, translation, cross / cultural communication as well as second language acquisition. The results indicate that a culturally specific and contrapositive method of phraseological units may contribute to the development of the knowledge about the idiomatic meaning in learners and to goal better communication
