The increasing use of digital communication has significantly expanded the role of abbreviations in online English. These abbreviated forms are often perceived as non-standard, informal, and lacking grammatical structure. However, academic approaches to the study of such linguistic units remain limited. This article examines the grammatical patterns and syntactic functions of abbreviations commonly used in online (primarily written) English. The study analyzes online discourse drawn from social media comment sections as well as frequently used abbreviations found in instant messaging platforms. Through qualitative linguistic analysis, the research demonstrates that online abbreviations exhibit systematic grammatical behavior and occupy consistent syntactic positions within sentences. The findings suggest that these forms function not merely as random shortcuts but as structured elements within contemporary digital English, contributing to the evolving grammar of online communication
