CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS IN INDIVIDUALIZING ENGLISH INSTRUCTION

Abstract

Individualizing English instruction is essential in contemporary classrooms, where learners vary widely in proficiency, learning styles, motivation, and prior knowledge. This article examines the key challenges associated with individualization, including diverse proficiency levels, time and resource constraints, classroom management, assessment difficulties, and learner motivation. It explores practical solutions such as differentiated instruction, scaffolding, flexible grouping, formative assessment, technology integration, culturally responsive pedagogy, choice-based activities, metacognitive strategies, cooperative learning, and differentiated feedback. By addressing these challenges and implementing responsive instructional strategies, teachers can support language development, foster learner autonomy, enhance engagement, and promote equitable learning outcomes. The article emphasizes that effective individualization is a dynamic, reflective, and student-centered approach essential for achieving communicative competence and lifelong language learning skills in heterogeneous English classrooms
