CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PEDAGOGY IN INDIVIDUALIZED ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

Culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) is essential in individualizing English language instruction in diverse classrooms, where learners differ in proficiency, cultural background, prior knowledge, and learning preferences. This article examines how CRP can enhance language development, engagement, and equity by integrating students’ cultural experiences, knowledge, and perspectives into lesson design, instructional processes, and assessment. Strategies discussed include differentiated content and process, scaffolded support, flexible grouping, choice-based learning, formative assessment, technology integration, and metacognitive approaches, all aligned with culturally relevant practices. The article also addresses challenges such as resource limitations, classroom management, and curriculum constraints, offering practical solutions to implement CRP effectively. By validating students’ cultural identities and leveraging diversity as a resource, culturally responsive individualization fosters communicative competence, critical thinking, learner autonomy, and lifelong language learning skills, creating inclusive and equitable English classrooms
