Abstract

British English and American English are two predominant standardized variants of the English language. Although they possess a shared grammatical framework, their vocabularies diverge significantly. These lexical variations stem from historical divergence, cultural evolution, and autonomous standardization processes. This article analyzes the primary domains of vocabulary divergence between British and American English, encompassing quotidian life, education, transportation, cuisine, and institutional terms. The paper illustrates, through examples and academic sources, how these disparities affect communication, language acquisition, and translation
