Pragmatic competence constitutes a vital component of second language (L2) proficiency, enabling interlocutors to navigate meaning in contextually appropriate ways. It encompasses the knowledge and ability to perform speech acts, manage discourse, interpret implicit meaning, and respond to culturally embedded norms of politeness and appropriateness.
