This article presents the author’s position that developing pragmatic speech in teaching English at higher education institutions is of vital importance. Simply knowing English is not sufficient for participation in international diplomatic communications, conferences, or debates. The author emphasizes that theoretical knowledge must be reinforced with practical activities to cultivate pragmatic competence.
