Abstract

The new edition of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, adopted through a nationwide referendum, represents the most comprehensive constitutional reform in the country’s history. Consisting of 155 articles, this fundamental document declares the human being – his life, freedom, honor, and dignity – as the highest value and places the principle of “Human – Society – State” at the center of all state activity. The updated Constitution introduced 65 new norms concerning human rights and freedoms: absolute prohibition of torture, complete abolition of the death penalty, strengthened guarantees of personal inviolability, the right to a fair trial, freedom of movement, and the freedom to choose one’s place of residence – all creating a solid foundation for citizens to live truly free lives
